The Parable of the Seed

Many of us know the story of the parable of the sower, where the farmer scatters the seeds and they fall on various types of ground, but have you heard the parable of the seed? It actually comes right after the parable of the sower, and can be read as follows in Mark 4:26-29.

26 Jesus also said, "The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. 28 The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. 29 And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come."

(NLT)

I (James) was reading this passage the other day in my devotions, and realized that this is very much like the work that I and my team at TruthMedia do. We scatter seed on the fertile ground of the Internet and then leave the rest up to God. Night and day, whether we are asleep or awake, we trust that God will cause the seeds that we have planted to grow.

We don't always understand how it happens either. Sometimes it doesn't even happen the way we think it should but with God's help, the information that we scatter across the Internet produces crops on it's own.

When we invite you to partner with us financially or in prayer, this is the ministry with which you are partnering. Sometimes we don't even understand how it works, but it does. If we look at how many people indicated decisions for Christ just this last September, we can estimate that one person is coming to Christ every 10 minutes as a direct result of the ministry that we do. So tonight before you lie down for your 8 hours of sleep, think about and pray for the 48 people who will come to Christ as a direct result of your help in this ministry.

Thank you for your partnership, faithfulness and friendship towards us as we press on towards the goal.

Wishing you all the best,

James, Carolanne and Benjamin Warkentin
